QUEENSRYCHE [ part 1 ]

"Kai, lu udah tahu ada band yang namanya : Kuinsraish ?". Suatu hari temanku bertanya ke aku, yang lagi ngelamun di kelas sambil ngelihatin cewek nan cantik di depan aku, temen sekelasku yang cantik lagu nulis rupanya. "Apa ? Kuin....!!! apaan ?". "Kuinsraish, Kai, kuinsraish" jawab temanku. Ah lu salah baca kali, kuin kali, band si Freddie dkk itu kali, jawab aku. Bukan Kai, bukan band itu, band ini baru, gua baru beli kasetnya kemarin, nih dia kasetnya, jawab temenku. Dan terus aku ambil kaset di tangan temenku dan mulai ngeliat kaset itu. Rekaman Billboard !!! Di kaset itu tertulis Queensryche untuk nama bandnya, dan The Warning nama albumnya. Walah susah bener bacanya nih nama band. Langsung aku keluar dari kelas, karena kebetulan jam istirahat belum abis. Sendiri aku keluar sambil bawa kaset tersebut. Eh, mau di bawa kemana kaset gua, Kai, tanya temenku. Bentar gua pinjem dulu, bentar aja. Terus aku liatin cover kaset itu, gambar dunia di latar belakangnya, terus ada kartu 3 biji berjajar, dan yang di tengah lagi di pegang oleh sebuah tangan, dan di kartu yang tengah itu tergambar sepasang mata yang lagi mengeluarkan sinar kayak laser warna hijau. Uh keren bener nih cover. Aku tatap terus tuh kaset cukup lama, jantung aku degdegan nga karuan. Wah kayaknya edan pasti nih band, pikir aku kala itu. Dan akhirnya kaset itupun aku pinjem ke temenku buat di bawa pulang. Dan itulah awal mula dari sebuah perkenalan dengan band super keren nan edan bernama : Queensryche.

Sebuah petikan gitar akustik, di mainkan oleh seorang pemuda kira-kira berumur 16an lah, sang gitaris ini sedang memainkan sebuah lagu dari sang band super master Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven. Nyanyiannya begitu merdu dan sedap untuk di dengarkan, hingga para penonton di sebuah pesta begitu terpukau mendengarkan sang gitaris memainkan gitarnya. Pesta kecil ini di adakan di sebuah kota bernama Bellevue, di Washington, Amerika Serikat. Ketika itu sekitar tahun 1977. Sang pemuda memang merupakan fans berat dari gitaris Jimmy Page. Sebagai seorang pemuda tentu saja berkeinginan untuk lebih mengekspresikan permainan musiknya dalam sebuah band. Hingga tak lama kemudian sang pemuda bergabung dengan beberapa temannya untuk membentuk sebuah band. Sang pemuda ini bernama....CHRIS DeGARMO. Chris kemudian bersama dengan teman-temannya, membentuk sebuah band yang bernama : JOKER. Dan salah seorang temannya di band ini adalah MICHAEL WILTON, atau biasa di sebut sebagai Mike Wilton. Band ini terbentuk di tahun 1979. Dengan semangat yang membara kemudian band inipun mulai mengadakan latihan- latihan secara serius dan tak lama kemudian merekapun turut serta dalam sebuah kompetisi atau kontes band yang di adakan di sebuah tempat di kota ini yang bernama : Lake Hills. Begitu banyak band yang turut serta dalam kontes ini. Kontes yang di ikuti oleh banyak band ini mengharuskan setiap band untuk membawa peralatannya masing- masing. Jadi jika sebuah band lebih "bermodal", maka tentu saja sound yang di hasilkan juga akan lebih baik. Hanya saja Joker tidaklah mempunyai modal besar untuk itu. Hingga akhirnya pada babak penyisihan yang pertamapun mereka sudah terlempar keluar dari kontes ini. Di kontes band ini juga ada sebuah band yang begitu memukau para penonton, yaitu : TYRANT. Yang membuat penonton terpukau dengan band ini adalah sang vokalis yang begitu mantap suaranya, dia adalah.....GEOFF TATE. Geoff di band ini juga bersama dengan seorang gitaris yang bernama : Adam Brenner, yang kemudian di kenal dengan nama : Adam Bomb. Band lain yang juga turut serta dalam kontes ini adalah sebuah band yang juga adalah teman-teman dari Chris dan Mike adalah High Roller, di mana di band ini kita akan mengenal seorang gitaris bernama Jeff Olson, yang juga kemudian merupakan anggota dari sebuah band bernama Rox. Band Geoff ini, Tyrant, memang terus melaju sampai ke partai final, namun band ini di kalahkan di final oleh sebuah yang bernama Ridge. Sebuah band yang kemudian akan kita kenal sebagai sebuah band dengan nama : Malaikat Kelima, Fifth Angel.

Banyak hal terjadi setelah kontes band ini, Tyrant kemudian membubarkan diri setelah mereka mengalami kekalahan di final. Dan Joker juga mengalami penggatian anggota band. Dan yang sangat menyedihkan adalah sang gitaris Chris D yang di pecat dari band ini. Dan salah satu sebab pemecatan ini adalah Chris tidaklah memiliki dana yang cukup untuk memperbarui peralatannya. Sungguh menyakitkan kali yah. Dan sepeninggalan Chris D, mantan gitaris Tyrant, Jeff Olson kemudian bergabung dengan Joker. Setelah di tendang keluar dari Joker, kemudian Chris D bergabung dengan sebuah band yang bernama : Tempest. Di band ini Chris D pada posisi gitar, drum oleh Mark Welling dan bas gitar serta vokal di pegang oleh Mark Hovland. Namun band inipun tidak bertahan lama, band inipun bubar setelah sang drummer, Mark Welling bergabung dengan band baru milik Geoff Tate, Babylon. Begitu juga dengan band Chris D yang terdahulu, Joker. Band ini pun membubarkan diri karena sulit mencari seorang vokalis yang cocok dengan mereka. Setelah Joker bubar, Mike Wilton kemudian melanjutkan sekolahnya, Mike masuk ke sebuah universitas dan mengambil jurusan musik. Dan di tempat inilah Mike W kembali membentuk sebuah band baru bersama dengan seorang drummer yang kita kenal dengan nama : SCOTT ROCKENFIELD. Dan mereka menamai band mereka dengan : Cross+Fire. Dan kemudian Mike dan Scott bergabung dengan 2 orang asal band Tempest yaitu Chris D dan Mark Hovland. Hingga baru kemudian formasi band Cross+Fire ini terbentuk sempurna. Kemudian band inipun tampil di beberapa tempat di sekitar daerah mereka. Namun tak lama kemudian Mark Hovland mengundurkan diri dari band ini, karena ketidakcocokan dalam hal bermusik. Hingga band inipun harus menerima kenyataan pahit kalau mereka harus menggantikan 2 posisi sekaligus yang biasa di pegang oleh Mark H yaitu posisi bas gitar dan vokalis. Dan band inipun di bubarkan.

Kemudian di tahun 1981, Scott R memperkenalkan seorang temannya yang juga seorang pemain bas gitar yang bernama EDDIE JACKSON. Dan segera Eddie J pun bergabung dengan Chris, Scott dan Mike. Dan kemudian mereka menamai band baru ini dengan nama : The Mob. Seorang kawan dari Mike dan Chris kemudian mengadakan sebuah festival musik yang bernama Metalfest '81, dan tentu saja band-band di daerah mereka semua di undang, termasuk The Mob dan juga band Geoff yang baru yaitu Babylon. Namun kebingungan melanda The Mob, karena mereka belum mempunyai seorang vokalis sama sekali, bahkan rencana untuk itu belumlah ada. Dan yang pasti tampil dalam festival tersebut haruslah tetap di jalankan oleh The Mob. Saking bingungnya, kemudian para  anggota band The Mob ini nekad mendekati Geoff Tate untuk membantu mereka dalam hal vokal. Dan yang membuat mereka terkejut adalah Geoff T bersedia membantu mereka. Hingga di festival tersebut Geoff bernyanyi untuk 2 buah band. Di festival ini The Mob menyanyikan lagu-lagu dari band- band idola mereka seperti Iron Maiden juga Scorpions. Sedang Babylon hanya menyanyikan lagu-lagu ciptaan mereka sendiri. Dan tak di sangka kalau The Mob mendapat tanggapan yang luar biasa dari para penonton festival tersebut. Dan festival pun selesai. Tak lama setelah tampil di festival tersebut Babylon pun bubar. Bubarnya band ini di akibatkan oleh pemain bas gitar yang pergi meninggalkan band ini untuk melanjutkan kuliahnya. Hingga kemudian Geoff pun dalam beberapa kesempatan bermain kembali bersama dengan The Mob. Hanya saja kala itu, Geoff belumlah tertarik dengan musik metal yang di usung oleh band ini, karena Geoff adalah seorang pecinta musik  progressive rock.

The Mob tetap jalan terus walau belum mempunyai seorang vokalis tetap di bandnya, mereka mulai menulis lagu mereka sendiri dan memulai latihan-latihan serius di rumah Scott R. Dan Geoff sendiri kemudian bergabung dengan sebuah band yang bernama : Myth. Sebuah band yang beranggotakan 5 orang. Namun Geoff tetap sering membantu The Mob walau dia sudah menjadi anggota band Myth ini. Dan salah satu bantuan dari Geoff adalah membantu The Mob untuk menjadi vokalis sewaktu  band ini merekam 4 buah lagu di sebuah studio bernama Triad Studio. Dan akhirnya Geoff T bersama The Mob merekam lagu di studio tersebut. Kesediaan Geoff T ini juga karena Geoff ingin merasakan bagaimana proses rekaman berjalan disebuah studio profesional. Akhirnya kemudian The Mob dan Geoff merekam : Queen of the Reich, Nightrider, Blinded dan sebuah lagu yang belum di buat liriknya, masih berupa musik yang di tulis oleh Chris D. Dan kemudian Geoff juga membantu Chris dalam menulis lirik untuk lagu tersebut. Dan akhirnya lagu tersebutpun di rekam, lagu tersebut berjudul : The Lady Wore Black. Hasil rekaman ini adalah sebuah kaset. Dengan kaset di tangan para anggota band mulai mencari label ataupun seseorang yang bersedia menjadi produser. Namun dalam kurun waktu hampir setahun, hasil kreasi mereka tersebut selalu di tolak dengan berbagai macam alasan. Walau demikian kaset ini banyak mendapatkan tanggapan positif dari teman-teman band ini.

Di awal tahun 1982, pemilik sebuah label yang bernama Easy Street Records berencana untuk menjalin kerja sama dengan The Mob, hanya saja sang pemilik tersebut tidak dapat menerima keadaan Geoff yang masih berada di sebuah band lain yaitu Myth. Hingga akhirnya The Mob pun membatalkan kerja sama tersebut dan mencari orang lain. Hingga akhirnya The Mob bertemu dengan seseorang yang dapat kita sebut sebagai manajer. Sang manajer kemudian meminta band untuk membuat sebuah foto band, agar mereka dapat menjual lagu-lagu yang telah mereka rekam. Dan di sini Geoff menyetujui hal tersebut dengan syarat di buat sebuah kontrak, agar dia mendapatkan "bagian" atas vokal dan foto yang di buatnya. Setelah semua selesai, sang manajer juga meminta The Mob untuk mengganti nama. Hal itu bukanlah sesuatu yang mudah untuk di lakukan, terlihat dari bingungnya para anggota band untuk memilih nama band. Hingga kemudian merekapun akhirnya mengambil dari sebuah judul lagu yang mereka buat yaitu Queen of the Reich, dan mereka menyatukan serta menyempurnakan hingga menjadi : QUEENSRYCHE. Dan disinilah segalanya bermula. Setelah nama band berubah, kemudian sang manajer mengirimkan kaset serta foto tersebut ke seorang temannya, yang kala itu menjadi penulis bagi sebuah majalah musik yang terkenal : Kerrang!!. Dan memang kemudian sang teman menulis artikel tentang band ini di majalah tersebut. Singkat kata akhirnya sang manajer dan band ini mendapatkan berkarung-karung surat dari berbagainegara di Eropa yang menginginkan hasil rekaman tersebut. Dengan tanggapan yang begitu positif, akhirnya sang manajer kemudian menjalin kerja sama dengan para distributor dan juga mendirikan sebuah label yang bernama : 206 Records. Tak lama kemudian hasil rekaman 4 lagu Queensryche ( QS ) tersebut di rilis oleh label ini.

Tanggapan sangat positif dari dari berbagai media massa maupun para penggila musik metal di Amerika. Beberapa ribu kopi terjual dalam waktu yang sangat singkat. Hingga hal inipun membuat Geoff T, dengan sendirinya sadar akan masa depan band ini. Dan tak lama kemudian Geoff undur diri dari Myth dan bergabung secara resmi sebagai anggota band dengan QS. Lagu-lagu QS dengan cepat terdengar juga di berbagai radio di daerah meraka dan juga di beberapa radio di kota-kota besar di Amerika. Dengan nama band yang mulai menjadi pembicaraan di kalangan penggila musik, QS kemudian mendapatkan tawaran untuk menjadi band pembuka bagi sebuah band bernama : Zebra, ketika mereka konser di Seattle selama 2 hari. Konser ini malah dapat di katakan menjadi konsernya QS bukan Zebra, karena tanggapan yang sangat luar biasa di dapat oleh QS dari 2 konser tersebut. Selain konser tersebut, tanggapan positif yang di dapat QS adalah kontrak kerja sama dengan sebuah label besar di Amerika yaitu EMI Records, yang menandatangani kontrak dengan QS untuk 6 buah album selanjutnya. Buset dah nih band ! Dan tak lama kemudian EMI Records mererilis ep Queensryche tersebut untuk pasaran seluruh dunia. Ep ini dirilis di bulan Agustus tahun 1983. Tak lama setelah ep tersebut di rilis, QS kembali tampil untuk konser, kali ini QS di temani oleh sebuah band keren asal Los Angeles, Quiet Riot, yang sedang berpromosi untuk album terbarunya : Metal Health. Setelah dengan Quiet Riot selesai, QS kembali tampil untuk konser dengan sebuah band asal Amerika juga yaitu : Twisted Sister. Mereka tampil di daerah timur Amerika juga Kanada. Setelah itu QS kembali ke Seattle untuk menjadi band pembuka bagi sebuah band master bernama : Dio, yang sedang berpromosi untuk album Holy Divernya.

Memasuki tahun 1984, EMI Records merilis sebuah single yang berisikan 2 lagu, QUEEN OF THE REICH. Dan kemudian QS berkunjung ke London untuk memulai kembali penulisan dan proses rekaman lagu-lagu baru. Dan yang bikin band ini begitu bersemangat adalah 2 orang musisi top dunia berkunjung ke tempat mereka merekam, mereka adalah David Bowie dan sang master gitar, idola dari Chris D, sapa lagi kalau bulan Mr. Jimmy Page. Wuh nga tahan dah gimana perasaan Chris ketika bertemu dengan sang idola. Dan di sekitar bulan Juni, QS merilis sebuah single yang berjudul : TAKE HOLD OF THE FLAME. Dan EMI Records Jepang kemudian merilis sebuah single juga yang berjudul : WARNING. Dan akhirnya di bulan september 1984, QS merilis sebuah album pertama mereka yang berjudul : THE WARNING. Dan dengan album super edan keren ini, QS berhasil mengguncang arena musik metal di seluruh dunia. Selanjutnya QS menggelar tur dengan tajuk The Warning Tour. Tur di mulai di Jepang, di awal agustus 1984. Selama 3 hari QS di Jepang, kemudian tur berlanjut ke Eropa, di mulai akhir agustus sampai akhir oktober 1984, di tur Eropa tersebut QS menjadi band pembuka bagi Dio. Selesai dengan tur Eropa, QS melanjutkan tur ke Amerika Serikat dan Kanada, yang di mulai sekitar pertengahan november 1984 sampai dengan awal bulan Maret tahun berikutnya, 1985. Dan dalam tur Amerika tersebut QS menjadi band pembuka bagi Kiss dan Iron Maiden. Setelah selesai menjadi band pembuka, kemudian QS juga tampil sebagai bintang utama di beberapa konser di Amerika yang di mulai di akhir Mei 1985 sampai pertengahan bulan Juli 1985. Dan di konser-konser tersebut yang menjadi band pembuka bagi QS adalah Keel dan juga King Kobra. Di tahun yang sama juga QS merilis sebuah format video dengan judul : LIVE IN TOKYO.

Setelah memasuki masa istirahat yang cukup panjang setelah tur panjangnya, di sekitar bulan Juni 1986, QS kembali memasuki studio dan tak lama kemudian sebuah single kembali di rilis dengan judul : GONNA GET CLOSE TO YOU. Selesai dengan rekaman lagu barunya, QS kembali menggelar tur panjangnya. Tur panjang ini bertajuk Rage For Order Tour. Yang di mulai bahkan sebelum album terbaru mereka di rilis. Album terbaru mereka di rilis di bulan september 1986  dengan judul tentu saja : RAGE FOR ORDER. Dan kemudian tur pun di mulai, di awali di Amerika di sekitar akhir bulan juli 1986 sampai awal september 1986, di tur ini QS menjadi band pembuka bagi band asal Australia, AC/ DC. Selanjutnya tur berlanjut, namun masih di Amerika, hanya kali ini QS menjadi band pembuka bagi band Ozzy Osbourne Band, di mulai di awal september sampai awal oktober 1986. Dan QS juga sempat tampil sebagai bintang utama di pertengahan oktober sampai  akhir oktober 1986 di beberapa konser di Amerika juga. Selanjutnya QS mengunjungi Eropa di mulai di awal november sampai dengan awal bulan desember 1986, dalam tur kali ini QS bersama dengan sebuah band bernama Bon Jovi. Selesai dengan tur Eropa, kemudian QS kembali lagi untuk tampil di Amerika, baik menjadi band pembuka maupun menjadi bintang utama, di mulai pada akhir bulan januari 1987 sampai akhir bulan februari 1987. Setelah itu, selama sisa tahun 1987 tersebut, di gunakan oleh QS untuk menuliskan lagu baru juga sebagai waktu istirahat bagi band setelah menjalankan tur untuk album Rage.

Tahun 1988, di mulai oleh QS dengan merekam lagu-lagu baru, dan tak lam kemudian sebuah single kembali di rilis oleh band ini, sebuah single yang berjudul : EYES OF A STRANGER. Tak lama kemudian di susul juga oleh sebuah single untuk tujuan promosi dengan judul : REVOLUTION CALLING PROMO. Barulah di sekitar awal bulan Mei 1988, QS kembali merilis sebuah album baru yang berjudul : OPERATION : MINDCRIME. Dan inilah sebuah album yang benar-benar mulai menghantam berbagai chart di seluruh dunia. Selanjutnya kembali QS menggelar tur panjangnya  yang kali ini bertajuk : Operation : Mindcrime Tour. Tur kali ini di mulai di Amerika dan Kanada sebagai band pembuka bagi Def Leppard, yang di mulai awal september sampai awal oktober 1988. Kemudian QS tampil di Eropa sebagai band pembuka bagi Metallica di awal oktober sampai dengan awal november 1988. Kemudian tampil sebagai bintang utama di  Inggris selama 3 hari saja. Selesai dengan tur eropa, QS kembali tampil di Amerika dan Kanada, juga sebagai band pembuka bagi Metallica di mulai di awal november 1988 sampai dengan pertengahan februari 1989. Selesai dengan tur sesi ke dua bagi Amerika dan Kanada, QS kembali melanjutkan lagi ke Eropa, kali ini QS sebagai band utamanya selama 3 hari juga, selanjutnya QS berkunjung ke Jepang selama kurang lebih seminggu, juga sebagai band utama dan terakhir QS kembali ke Amerika untuk tampil sebagai band utama selama seminggu. Setelah dengan tur super panjangnya, QS kemudian beristirahat untuk sementara. Beberapa rilisan tetap di lempar ke pasaran oleh label mereka, seperti sebuah ep dengan judul : OVERSEEING THE OPERATION. Tak lama juga merilis sebuah single untuk tujuan promosi yaitu : I DON'T BELIEVE IN LOVE. Dan terakhir di bulan september 1989, sebuah video di rilis dengan judul : VIDEO : MINDCRIME. Yang pasti tur-tur QS tersebut sangatlah sukses, walau banyak hambatan di berbagai konser, seperti anggota band yang sakit ataupun speaker Mike Wilton yang meledak, namun tur tersebut benar-benar sangat sukses.

Masuk ke tahun yang baru, 1990, barulah QS memulai kembali penulisan lagu-lagu baru untuk album mereka selanjutnya. Baru di sekitar bulan mei 1990, QS merilis kembali sebuah single yang berjudul : EMPIRE. Dan tak lama setelah single tersebut di rilis, QS kembali merilis sebuah single yang berjudul : SILENT LUCIDITY. Dan akhirnyadi akhir bulan agustus 1990, sebuah album baru di rilis dengan judul : EMPIRE. Sebuah album yang juga di produseri oleh sang jenius, Peter Collins, di mana QS mulai memasukkan unsur ballada juga orkestra dalam lagu-lagu mereka di album ini. Dan tak lama setelah di rilis, album ini kembali mendapat tanggapan yang sangat positif dari pasar, bahkan dalam waktu kurang dari sebulan album ini mulai bertengger di Top Ten Album Chart. Lagu-lagu seperti Silent Lucidity, Jet City Woman dan Another Rainy Night (Without You) menjadi begitu dominan di chart-chart internasional. Khusus untuk lagu Silent, lagu ini menjadi lagu favorit di sebuah media tv bernama MTV. Akhirnya tur kembali di gelar oleh QS, kali ini dengan rangkaian tur yang bertajuk : Building Empire Tour. Tur di mulai dengan tur ke Eropa yang di mulai di Irlandia, di mulai di akhir oktober sampai dengan awal desember 1990, dan dalam tur ini QS di temani oleh sebuah band milik gitaris Dokken, George Lynch yaitu : Lynch Mob. Tanggal 23 januari 1991, QS tampil di Rock In Rio Festival. Diakhir januari sampai awal bulan februari 1991, QS tampil di Jepang sebagai band utama. Setelah itu QS melanjutkan tur ke Amerika bersama dengan band Suicidal Tendencies, yang di mulai sekitar pertengahan april sampai dengan akhir Juli 1991. Kemudian tur berlanjut dengan tampil di sebuah festival super keren bernama Monsters Of Rock Festival di mulai di pertengahan agustus sampai akhir september 1991. Di tanggal 5 september 1991, QS sempat tampil juga di sebuah acara tv bernama MTV Awards. Selanjutnya QS juga tampil di sebuah acara yang bertajuk Day On The Green di tanggal 12 oktober 1991, bersama dengan Metallica, Faith No More dan Soundgarden. Tur terus berlanjut, QS kemudian kembali untuk tur di Amerika dan Kanada bersama dengan sebuah band bernama : Warrior Soul, yang di mulai di sekitar pertengahan oktober sampai dengan awal januari 1992. Di tahun yang sama, 1991, EMI Records juga merilis beberapa rilisan kembali seperti, sebuah single yang berjudul : ANOTHER RAINY NIGHT ( WITHOUT YOU ). Disusul dengan sebuah single lainnya yang berjudul : BEST I CAN. Juga di rilis lagi sebuah single lain yang berjudul : JET CITY WOMAN. Dan di akhir tahun 1991, QS merilis sebuah video yang berjudul OPERATION LIVECRIME, sebuah rilisan berupa box set berupa sebuah video dengan sebuah cd.

Di bulan februari 1992, QS juga tampi di sebuah acara yang bertajuk : Grammy Award. Selanjutnya di tanggal 27 April 1992, QS tampil secara akustik di sebuah acara tv, MTV Unplugged. Dan kemudian juga tampil di sebuah acara yang bertajuk Rock The Environment di tanggal 6 juni

1992, bersama dengan band The Walkabouts, War Babies dan Lovemongers. Setelah menjalankan berbagai tur super panjang dan melelahkan tersebut, kemudian QS untuk sementara kembali beristirahat sebelum menulis atau pun merekam lagu barunya. Dan di tahun yang sama, 1992, EMI Records kembali merilis sebuah single yang berjudul : ANYBODY LISTENING. Dan di akhir tahun 1992, juga merilis sebuah live album yang berjudul : OPERATION LIVECRIME. Dan di sepanjang tahun 1993, dapat di katakan QS tidak melakukan apapun. QS hanya merilis sebuah video yang berjudul : BUILDING EMPIRES dan sebuah single yang di masukkan untuk sebuah soundtrack film yang berjudul : Last Action Hero, dengan judul : REAL WORLD. Memasuki tahun yang baru, 1994, QS masih juga menjalankan masa rehatnya, baru di sekitar bulan Juli, QS memasuki studio dan mulai menulis serta merekam lagu-lagu barunya. Tak lama kemudian QS merilis sebuah single yang berjudul : BRIDGE, dan di susul kembali dengan sebuah single yang berjudul : I AM I. Dan baru di sekitar pertengahan bulan oktober 1994, QS merilis sebuah album baru yang berjudul : PROMISED LAND. Album ini kembali mengguncangkan chart musik dunia, 3 lagu QS kembali bertengger di Hit Singles Chart, yaitu : I Am I, Bridge dan Disconnected Selanjutnya tentu saja rencana tur di gelar kembali. QS kemudian menggelar kembali tur panjangnya, kali ini berajuk : Road To The Promised Land Tour. Tur ini di awali dengan berbagai konser promosi yang di lakukan di Eropa oleh QS, promosi ini berupa konser, wawancara di berbagai radio juga pemutaran klip-klip, tur promosi ini di lakukan oleh QS di sekitar akhir oktober sampai dengan awal november 1994, di awali di Inggris. Selanjutnya kemudian QS baru menggelar tur yang sebenarnya, di awali dengan benua Eropa, tur Eropa ini kembali di awali di Inggris, yang di mulai di sekitar awal februari 1995 sampai sekitar pertengahan bulan maret 1995. Di tanggal 9 Maret 1995, QS tampil di sebuah studio tv, yaitu MTV Studios. Tur kemudian berlanjut ke Jepang selama kurang lebih 2 minggu. Selesai dengan tur ke Jepang, barulah QS tampil di Amerika dan juga Kanada, di mulai di sekitar awal April sampai dengan akhir Juli 1995. Dan untuk tur Amerika tersebut, QS di temani oleh sebuah band super keren bernama : Type O Negative.

Kesuksesan album Promised ini juga membuat EMI Records mulai lebih kreatif dalam menjual nama QS, di rencanakan kalau label ini akan merilis 2 buah CDROM yang berisikan sebuah permainan petualangan. Rencananya cd ini akan di rilis di tahun 1995. Namun kemudian rencana ini gagal, dan cdrom tersebut baru di rilis sekitar maret 1996. Di tahun 1995 EMI Records juga merilis sebuah single untuk tujuan promosi yang berjudul : SOMEONE ELSE ?. Setelah tur panjang tersebut, QS kembali vakum dari kegiatan musik mereka. Sebagaian tahun 1995 serta sepanjang tahun 1996, di gunakan QS untuk beristirahat. Hanya di tahun 1996, EMI Records merilis CDrom, seperti yang telah di sebut di atas. Baru di sekitar akhir tahun 1996, QS memulai kembali menulis lagu dan merekamnya. Dan tak lama kemudian, di sekitar awal tahun 1997, QS merilis sebuah single yang berjudul : SIGN OF THE TIMES. Dan baru di sekitar akhir bulan Maret 1997, QS merilis album barunya yang berjudul : HEAR IN THE NOW FRONTIER. Beberapa bulan setelah album ini di rilis, EMI Records terlihat mulai menampakkan tanda-tanda yang tidak bersahabat dengan band ini, memang penjualan album yang tidak seperti dulu lagi menjadi pemicu hal tersebut. Berkurangnya promosi juga begitu di rasakan oleh band ini. Namun masih belum terjadi hal yang tidak mengenakkan antara kedua pihak, band dan label ini. Selanjutnya QS kembali menggelar tur, kali ini tur tersebut bertajuk : Journey To The Now Frontier Tour. Tur ini di mulai di Amerika dengan sebuah konser untuk promosi album terbaru, di lakukan di New Mexico di sekitar awal bulan Juni 1997. Kemudian tur sebenarnya di lanjutkan ke seantero Amerika dengan berbagai macam band pembuka seperti : Midline, Rorshach Test, Convicted Innocence, Pist. On, Pull, Harpo, Dirty Larry, Love Revolution, Rigid dan juga Sunday. Tur Amerika ini berakhir di sekitar akhir bulan agustus 1997. Kemudian QS beristirahat sejenak, untuk kemudian kembali tampil di Amerika Selatan bersama dengan band super bernama : Whitesnake dan juga Megadeth, di mulai

sekitar awal bulan desember sampai sekitar akhir desember 1997. Dan

kemudian tur pun berakhir.

Tahun yang baru, 1998, Setelah tur selesai QS menghadapi 2 masalah sekaligus, pertama adalah masalah yang pernah muncul sebelum mereka menggelar konser yaitu masalah dengan label mereka, EMI Records. Setelah kerja sama dengan label yang mencapai waktu hampir 15 tahun tersebut akhirnya pun berakhir, label ini kemudian memang meninggalkan QS. Dan satu masalah lainnya adalah Chris DeGarmo yang berkeinginan untuk mengundurkan diri dari band ini, setelah sekian lama mereka bersatu akhirnya di tanggal 28 Januari 1998, Chris D secara resmi meninggalkan band ini. Kabar yang ada mengatakan kalau Chris D mulai sering bersilangan pendapat dengan anggota band lainnya, baik dalam menulis lagu maupun ketidakcocokan lainnya. Hingga akhirnya dia memilih untuk keluar dari band. Dengan berat hati para anggota band inipun akhirnya melepas kepergian Chris. Kemudian QS pun mencari gitaris baru untuk menggantikan sang master jenius yang telah pergi dari band. Baru kemudian di tanggal 15 agustus 1998, QS secara resmi mengumumkan seorang gitaris bernama : KELLY GRAY, menjadi anggota band QS yang baru, untuk menggantikan Chris D. Memasuki tahun yang baru, 1999, QS kemudian menjalin kerja sama dengan sebuah label besar milik Ahmet Ertegun yang bernama : Atlantic Records.

Dengan formasi barunya, QS kembali memasuki studio di sekitar maret- april 1999. QS merekam lagu-lagu mereka yang baru di sebuah studio yang bernama : London Bridge Studio, sebuah studio di Seattle. Dan akhirnya di pertengahan september 1999, QS kembali merilis sebuah album yang berjudul : Q2K. Beberapa lagu dari album ini kembali menjadi hits di berbagai tangga lagu dunia, seperti lagu : Breakdown, Liquid Sky, Sacred Ground, Falling Down dan The Right Side of My Mind. Selanjutnya kembali QS menggelar tur panjangnya, kali in bertajuk : Electric Shockwave Tour. Tur ini di sebenarnya di awali di sebuah konser khusus bagi fans QS dan juga sebagai perkenalan untuk gitaris baru di tanggal 16 Januari 1999. Dan tur sesungguhnya baru di mulai di sekitar akhir bulan oktober, yang di mulai dengan tur ke Amerika dan Kanada, yang berakhir di sekitar pertengahan desember 1999, dalam tur tersebut QS di temani oleh beberapa band pembuka, seperti Black, Doubledrive dan Caroline's Spine. Tur di lanjutkan ke Eropa, yang di mulai di pertengahan januari sampai dengan pertengahan februari tahun 2000, di tur tersebut, QS di temani oleh sebuah band bernama The Tea Party. Setelah tur Eropa, QS melanjutkan kembali dengan tur Amerika bagian kedua, yang di mulai di akhir februari sampai akhir maret 2000. Setelah itu QS istirahat untuk sementara dan tur kemudian berlanjut di awal juni sampai dengan akhir juni 2000 untuk tampil kembali di Amerika bersama dengan sebuah band bernama : Project 36. Ditahun 2000 tersebut, QS merilis kembali sebuah single yang berjudul : BESIDE YOU, sebuah single untuk tujuan promosi. Dan di bulan Juni, QS merilis sebuah album kompilasi yang berjudul : GREATEST HITS. Selanjutnya kembali di gelar sebuah rangkaian tur pendek yang bertajuk : Greatest Hits Tour. Di mulai di Amerika dan Kanada pada awal bulan agustus sampai dengan akhir bulan september 2000, dalam tur tersebut QS di temani oleh Iron Maiden dan Juga Halford. Tur ini kemudian terhenti untuk masa rehat sebentar, dan di lanjutkan di awal tahun yang baru 2001 dengan tampil di Meksiko, juga bersama Iron Maiden dan Halford. Kemudian kembali QS memasuki masa rehat, dan baru kembali mengadakan tur di sekitar awal Juni 2001 sampai akhir bulan juli 2001, dan tur tersebut di lakukan hanya di Amerika saja. Dan sebuah konser mereka di Moore Theater, di Seattle kemudian di rekam. Di konser tersebut QS bergabung dengan band : Bad Boy, Jackyl, Skid Row, Joan Jett dan juga David Lee Roth. Selesai dengan konser-konser tersebut, kemudian kembali QS di dera oleh sebuah masalah, kali ini datang dari label mereka, Atlantic Records, yang di rasakan sangat kurang dalam mempromosikan band, hingga QS begitu kecewa dengan label ini dan kemudian memutuskan untuk memutuskan kerja samanya, dan tak lama kemudian QS bekerja sama dengan sebuah label besar lainnya bernama Sanctuary Records. Kerja sama ini diawali dengan merilis sebuah live album yang berjudul : LIVE EVOLUTION, di sekitar akhir september 2001 dan sebulan kemudian versi dvdnya juga dirilis oleh label yang sama. Setelah album dan dvd tersebut di rilis, kembali QS menggelar tur pendek dengan tajuk : Live Evolution Tour, tur kali ini juga hanya di lakukan di Amerika, walau ada rencana untuk tampil di Jepang, namun kemudian di batalkan. Di mulai di awal november sampai sekitar akhir november 2001. Tur ini juga menyisakan suatu masalah yang memang telah terdengar beberapa waktu sebelumnya, masalah tersebut adalah masalah dengan gitarisnya, Kelly Gray. Kelly menyatakan mengundurkan dirinya dari band ini. Dan akhirnya Kelly pun keluar dari band ini di sekitar akhir tahun 2001, setelah melakukan tugasnya di sebuah konser di New York.

Tahun yang baru menjelang, tahun 2002, di tahun ini dapat di katakan QS kembali memasuki waktu istirahat, sekalian juga untuk kembali mencari seorang gitaris untuk menggantikan Kelly. Namun waktu terus berjalan sampai memasuki tahun yang baru, 2003. Sebuah berita yang mengejutkan terdengar dari band ini, Chris DeGarmo sedang bersama dengan band ini untuk menyelesaikan album baru QS. Berita ini di lansir di 19 Februari 2003. Dan berita selanjutnya adalah Chris juga akan bergabung dengan QS dalam rencana tur untuk album baru mereka. Tak lame kemudian QS merilis sebuah single yang berjudul RHYTHM OF HOPE, sebuah single yang hanya dapat di"beli" di Apple Itunes. Di sekitar awal Maret 2003, sebuah album kompilasi di rilis dengan judul : CLASSICS MASTERS. Di pertengahan bulan Mei 2003, QS secara resmi menyatakan bahwa Kelly Gray telah meninggalkan band ini. Dan di bulan Juni 2003, QS merilis sebuah box set yang berisikan 7 cd album

dan 2 CD Rom, dengan judul : REVOLUTION CALLING. Baru di sekitar juli 2003, QS kembali merilis sebuah album baru yang berjudul : TRIBE. Selanjutnya kembali QS menggelar tur panjangnya, dengan tajuk Tribe Tour. Hanya saja Chris D tidak dapat menjadi pemain gitar untuk tur tersebut, dengan alasan jadwal yang bentrok. Hingga untuk tur tersebut QS merekrut seorang gitaris yang bernama : MIKE STONE. Tur tersebut di mulai di sekitar awal juni 2003, di awali dengan tampil di Eropa, sampai dengan pertengahan juni 2003. Tur Eropa QS di buka oleh band Sun Caged dan Hurricane Party. Dalam perjalanan tur Eropa ini, QS juga tampil di 2 festival yaitu : Sweden Rock Festival, berbarengan dengan Jethro Tull, Kamelot, Whitesnake, Motorhead, Krokus dan lain-lain. Juga tampil di Gods Of Metal Festival di itali, berbarengan dengan Pain Of Salvation, Motorhead, Saxon, UDO dan lain-lain. Dan tur kemudian berlanjut ke Amerika juga Kanada, dalam tur Amerika-Kanada ini QS di temani oleh Dream Theater dan juga Fates Warning, I Mother Earth dan Vicious Rumors sebagai band pembuka. Tur di mulai sekitar akhir juni sampai dengan awal bulan agustus 2003. Setelah itu kemudian QS tur kembali di Amerika dengan sebuah band bernama Echo 7 yang di mulai di awal september sampai dengan awal november 2003. 

Memasuki tahun yang baru, 2004, QS kembali merilis sebuah format dvd yang berisikan konser mereka di Tribe Tour, dengan judul : THE ART OF LIFE. Dan 2 bulan kemudian baru versi cd di rilis dengan judul yang sama. Selanjutnya kembali QS menggelar tur, kali ini bertajuk : Art Of Live Tour. Tur di mulai di pertengahan Maret sampai awal mei 2004, dengan band Symphony X sebagai band pembuka, QS tampil di Amerika. Selanjutnya QS menggelar tur ke Eropa, yang di mulai awal Juni sampai dengan pertengahan juli 2004. Dalam tur eropa ini, band pembuka untuk QS adalah Hurricane Party, Pump, Prospect, Debase dan Zan Clan. Dalam rangkaian tur eropa ini QS kembali tampil di beberapa festival yaitu : Arrow Rock Festival di Belanda, bersama dengan band : Yes, G3, Fish, Saga, Golden Earring, Heart, Iron Butterfly dan Caravan. Juga sebuah festival di Yunani, Rockwave Festival bersama dengan Judas Priest, Nightwish dan Nightfall. Kemudian festival di Jerman, Bang Your Head festival, bersama Alice Cooper, Gotthard, Children Of Bodom, Anthrax, Primal Fear dan Blaze. QS juga tampil di Belgia, di sebuah festival bernama Graspop Metal Meeting, bersama dengan Alice Cooper, Slipknot, Motorhead, Soulfly, Pleymo, Brides Of Destruction dan Evergrey. Dan tur ini berakhir di Amerika dengan tampil di sebuah festival bernama No Vote Left Behind Festival bersama dengan Jerry Cantrell. Di tahun 2004 juga QS mengabari kalau mereka akan kembali "menghidupkan" lanjutan dari album Operation. Dan untuk lebih mengetahui tanggapan para fansnya, QS kemudian menggelar tur kembali di tahun yang sama dengan tajuk : An Evening With Queensrÿche Tour. Dan dalam tur tersebut, QS merekrut aktor-aktor yang akan memainkan perannya sebagai Nikki juga Mary dan Dr X. Tur ini hanya di lakukan di Amerika dan Kanada, walau ada rencana untuk ke Meksiko, namun kemudian di batalkan. Tur di mulai di sekitar awal oktober 2004 sampai dengan akhir februari 2005. Tur ini kemudian berhenti untuk sementara, karena QS kemudian mengadakan tur musim panasnya, sebagai band pembuka bagu Judas Priest, yang di mulai sekitar akhir mei sampai dengan pertengahan Agustus 2005, tur dengan Judas Priest ini juga di lakukan di Amerika dan Kanada. Selanjutnya An Evening With Queensrÿche Tour pun berlanjut kembali di awal september dan berakhir di akhir oktober 2005.

Selesai dengan turnya tersebut, QS kemudian kembali memasuki waktu istirahat pendeknya, dan kemudian di awal tahun 2006, QS mulai kembali memasuki studio dan akhirnya di awal April 2006, QS merilis kembali sebuah album baru dengan judul : OPERATION : MINDCRIME II. Album ini juga menandakan sebuah kerja sama yang baru dengan sebuah label bernama Rhino Entertainment. Yang mana kerja sama ini telah di bicarakan ketika masa istirahat QS di 2005. Dan Ronnie James Dio juga tampil sebagai tamu di album ini. Selanjutnya kembali QS menggelar tur, kali ini bertajuk Operation: Mindcrime II Tour. Di mulai dengan tampil di Eropa di awal bulan juni sampai dengan akhir juni 2006. Dalam tur eropa ini QS juga tampil kembali di beberapa tur seperti : Monsters Of Rock di Inggris bersama dengan band : Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Journey, Thunder dan Ted Nugent. Juga sebuah festival bernama Sweden Rock Festival bersama dengan Def Leppard, Venom, WASP, Gamma Ray, Metal Church, Kamelot dan lain-lain. Kemudian ke Belanda untuk tampil di sebuah festival bernama Arrow Rock festival bersama dengan Roger Waters, Del Leppard, Dio, Ray Davies, Porcupine Tree, Pavlov's Dog dan Riverside. Kemudian tur berlanjut ke Australia selama sseminggu dan di lanjutkan kembali ke Amerika serta kanada yang di mulai pertengahan agustus sampai awal desember 2006.

Dan di tahun 2007 ini, tepatnya di bulan Juni 2007, QS merilis sebuah dvd yang berisikan konser mereka di sebuah tempat bernama Moore Theatre di Seattle di tanggal 13 sampai 15 Oktober 2006 lalu. Dvd ini berjudul : MINDCRIME AT THE MOORE. Seminggu kemudian versi cdnya kemudian juga di rilis. Dan di bulan Agustus 2007, QS merilis sebuah album kompilasi yang berjudul : SIGN OF THE TIMES : THE BEST OF QUEENSRYCHE.
